VettID can't solve every privacy problem, and we wouldn't pretend otherwise. The projects below are doing serious work on pieces of the puzzle we don't cover — and doing it right.
Read this first: We have no formal relationship with any project on this page. No affiliations, no affiliate links, no money changing hands in either direction. These are tools we use, respect, or recommend in our playbooks, listed because they're good — not because anyone asked.
Some recommendations on this page are due for re-review. The tools were solid when reviewed; details like pricing, features, or platform support may have moved.
GrapheneOS
- What it is
- A hardened, privacy-focused mobile operating system for Pixel devices.
- Why we trust it
- GrapheneOS is the only mobile OS that delivers on user sovereignty today. On every other mobile platform, you're really just renting your device and your identity — subject to the platform's rules, and forced to accept data collection as the price of a workable phone. GrapheneOS is what it looks like when the person holding the phone is actually in charge of it.

- What it is
- A suite of zero-access encrypted services — Mail, VPN, Drive, Pass, and Calendar — from Proton AG in Switzerland.
- Why we trust it
- Every Proton service follows the same architectural rule we build to: the provider can't read your data, not because they promise not to, but because the encryption makes it structurally impossible.
